SUMMARY
Apply principles of accounting and budgeting to ensure effective accounting and control, measuring, and reporting of the financial condition of NOVEC Energy Solutions, Inc (NES) and NOVEC Solutions (NS). Ensure employees are paid correctly according to NES and NS guidelines, and federal and state regulations. Perform general ledger and cash transaction accounting.
This position will be hybrid in Manassas, Virginia after an initial on-site introductory period of 6 months.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Payroll
Ensures accurate bi-weekly and semi-monthly payroll processing, documentation, required tax payments, and other legally required payments. Support the investigation of any payroll related issues in collaboration with our third-party payroll processor Intuit.
May assist with investigating and maintaining payroll system for payroll-related to set up issues, etc., including system upgrades and providing payroll-related technical assistance to other departments.
General Accounting
Ensures timely invoicing to customers and payment of suppliers' invoices. Prepares monthly journal entries and assists with the monthly closing process and maintenance of the chart of accounts.
Prepares monthly, quarterly, and annual local, state, federal, and other regulatory reports.
Prepares the analyzes and reconciliation of NES and NS general ledger accounts for accuracy and reasonableness.
Conduct bank reconciliation, and record cash and other transactions directly to the general ledger.
Prepares reports, statements, and documents for NES and NS management and external authorities.
Reviews technical accounting issues, assists accounting staff and other departments and recommends revisions to ensure efficient and accurate NES and NS operations in accordance with accepted accounting standards and practices.
Handles and maintains integrity and confidentiality of highly sensitive human resource and management information records.
Works continually towards self-development to stay current on accounting, tax, budgeting, and financial procedures and practices.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree (B. A.) in Accounting or Finance from an accredited institution or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
1+ year of related experience and/or training in general accounting and payroll is required, 3+ years is preferred.
QuickBooks Desktop software experience strongly desired.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Demonstrated ability to function independently in a multi-task environment, as well as part of a team.
Demonstrated knowledge of company policies and procedures as well as all applicable federal, state, and local laws.
Demonstrated knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and mathematical skills. Knowledge of payroll and budgeting systems, accounting theory, financial theory, and tax law.
Demonstrated proficiency with general computer operation, Microsoft Office applications, and accounting systems.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and efficiently with all levels within the organization.
Ability to anticipate and meet rapidly changing customer and business needs by quickly refocusing and realigning strategic and operational direction.
Strong analytical, organization, communication, and negotiation skills.

The employee rarely will be required to lift or exert a force of up to 10 pounds unassisted. This position does require a great deal of motor coordination with finger dexterity on a keyboard.
