Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and visionary Vice President (VP) - Software Developer to join our team at a leading bank in the UK. This role is pivotal in driving the end-to-end change and automation processes across our software development lifecycle. The successful candidate will lead the automation of governance, guardrails, and code-level processes, reducing friction and improving efficiency in delivery. The role involves collaboration with cross-functional teams to align technical initiatives with broader business goals, ensuring that all solutions meet the highest standards of quality and security.
Key Responsibilities:
• Technical Leadership:
o Lead and manage engineering teams to deliver high-quality, scalable, and secure software solutions.
o Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and support to ensure engineering teams excel in delivering innovative solutions.
o Drive the automation of the software development lifecycle, including guard rails, governance, metadata acquisition, and architecture backups.
o Implement end-to-end automation solutions, integrating test automation and connecting technical data with infrastructure automation.
o Collaborate with other programmes to integrate and enhance tech data and infrastructure automation using tools like Ansible.
• Strategic Planning and Execution:
o Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including operations, compliance, and product management, to align technical decisions with business objectives.
o Develop strategies to automate and streamline the delivery process, reducing the time and effort required for the CAF process.
o Drive the multiyear journey of transforming and automating end-to-end change processes within the organization.
• Stakeholder Management:
o Engage with key stakeholders across the organization to ensure alignment of technical solutions with business needs.
o Influence and guide strategic decisions, advocating for the technical roadmap and the adoption of automation technologies.
• Risk and Compliance:
o Ensure all software solutions comply with regulatory requirements and internal risk management policies.
o Implement robust risk and control mechanisms to safeguard the integrity and security of the bank’s software systems.
• Talent and Team Development:
o Foster a culture of continuous learning and innovation within the engineering teams.
o Lead the development and retention of top technical talent, ensuring the team is equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to drive automation and innovation.
o Provide coaching and development opportunities to team members, supporting their professional growth.
Mandatory Skills and Qualifications:
• Technical Expertise:
o Proven experience in software development, with a focus on automation, DevOps, and end-to-end change management.
o Proficiency in Python (mandatory) and experience with Ansible (desirable).
o Deep understanding of metadata acquisition, governance automation, and architecture backup processes.
• Leadership and Management:
o Strong leadership skills with a track record of managing and mentoring engineering teams.
o Experience in stakeholder management, influencing others, and driving strategic initiatives within a large organisation.
• Strategic and Analytical Thinking:
o Ability to think strategically, with experience in developing and executing technical roadmaps aligned with business goals.
o Strong business acumen and the ability to align technical initiatives with broader organisational objectives.
• Risk Management and Compliance:
o In-depth knowledge of risk management and controls, particularly in the context of software development and automation.
o Experience in ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements in a financial services environment.
• Organisational and Change Management:
o Expertise in change and transformation, with a focus on digital and technology-driven solutions.
o Ability to manage complex organisational design and change initiatives, driving successful outcomes.
Preferred Skills:
• Experience in implementing large-scale automation in a financial services environment.
• Familiarity with infrastructure automation and integration with software development processes.
