In general, the work of a Plumber requires rounded training and experience usually acquired through a formal apprenticeship or equivalent training and experience
Has responsibility of being available on twenty-four (24) hour call to facilitate emergency repairs to equipment that is critical to operations
Must have skill and technical ability to interpret so as to complete installations and repairs as required and must be able to apply advanced trade techniques to modify and execute in order to minimize equipment down time
Physically fit to bend, stoop, and lift in awkward positions and able to lift up to 50 lbs
Must maintain licenses and/or credentials required for this position
Ability to speak, read, and write English
Must possess the ability to interact well with others in a team setting ability or alone and be able to change jobs on short notice
Must be capable of working under tight time constraints in a high-volume environment with multiple priorities
Highly motivated, flexible organized and must be detail oriented
Strong customer service and interpersonal skills
Must be able to maintain ability to access government worksite
Must have practical knowledge of worksite safety, occupational hazards, and standard safety practices
Must be able to perform on-call duties when necessary and report to work within the required timeframe from notification. 
Must have and maintain a valid state driver’s license to operate a company vehicle
Must have a safe driving record, as defined by Company policy, to operate a company vehicle

Responsibilities
The Plumber (Maintenance) performs plumbing assembly, installation, maintenance, and repair at NIWC
Assembles install and repair pipes, fittings and fixtures of heating, water, and drainage systems according to specifications and plumbing codes
Studies building plans and working drawings to determine work aids required, and sequence of installations
Inspects structure to ascertain obstructions to be avoided to prevent weakening of structure resulting from installation of pipe and locates and marks position of pipe and pipe connections and passage holes for pipes in walls and floors
Cuts openings in walls and floors to accommodate pipe and pipe fittings, using hand tools and power tools, cuts and threads pipe, using pipe cutters, cutting torch, and pipe-threading machine, bends pipe to required angle by use of pipe-bending machine, or by placing pipe over block and bending it by hand
Assembles and installs valves, pipefittings, and pipes composed of metals, such as iron, steel, brass and lead, and nonmetals, such as glass, vitrified clay, and plastic
Joins pipe by use of screws, bolts, fittings, solder, plastic solvent, and caulks joints
Fills pipe system with water or air and reads pressure gauges to determine whether system is leaking
Installs and repairs plumbing fixtures, such as sinks, commodes, bathtubs, water heaters, hot water tanks, garbage disposal units, dishwashers, and water softeners
Repairs and maintains plumbing by replacing washers in leaky faucets, mending burst pipes, and opening clogged drains, and may weld holding fixtures to steel structural members
Performs other duties as assigned
This is done in most cases without benefit of direct supervision
Duties will require frequent periods of sitting, standing, kneeling, walking, crouching, crawling, reaching, and balancing
Has the ability to work inside and outside in all kinds of weather in various government buildings

Scope of Work:

The Plumber (Maintenance) performs plumbing assembly, installation, maintenance, and repair at NIWC.
