Summary

Provide oversight and management of denial managements for Patient Financial Services. The manager will work in collaboration with Billing and Collections team and oversee staff to help with revenue recovery and denials mitigation for Revenue Cycle Division.

Responsibilities
• Primarily responsible for review, follow up and denial management activities related to the collection of denied hospital and clinic claims. Researches and resolves account issues including identifying root cause of denials, thorough review of patient care and other insurance contracts, identifying information needed to appeal and correctly process claims; generally working through issues to collect payment as expediently as possible.
• Maintain a professional attitude and approach with payers and clients.
• Performs all appeals and denial recovery procedures needed to appropriately and accurately resolve technically denied claims.
• Evaluates, identifies, and coordinates with Clinical staff.
• Prepare and submit correspondence such as online inquiries, appeals, and letters for payment processing.
• Processes and resolves rejections and denials received from payers.
• Follow up on claims in a timely fashion as outlined in departmental policies and procedures.
• Utilize online payer portals.
• Document information in appropriate internal and client systems.
• Maintain regular contact with necessary parties regarding claims status.
• Comply with federal and state laws, company and department policies and procedures.
• Provides consultation and assistance to department Directors and Managers on improving reimbursement.
• Collaborates with the team to identify areas of reimbursement improvement opportunity in support of the strategic goals of the department.
• Serves as a liaison between revenue cycle and clinical departments regarding revenue medical necessity payer requirements.
• Performs department assessments to identify improvement opportunities related to issues associated with coding/billing issues and CPT/HCPCS code applications.
• Develops and provides medical necessity related education to clinicians to facilitate the timely and accurate capture of reimbursement.
• Review and resolve denied patient insurance claims. Review all paperwork the insurance company sends about a claim denial.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

• Skill in project management, assessing, and prioritizing multiple tasks, projects and demands.

MINIMUM EDUCATION QUALIFICATION

Bachelor’s degrees in business, finance, accounting, engineering, public administration or facility management. Progressively responsible professional work-related experience, education, or training may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for college education.

Minimum Experience Qualification

Non-supervisory – Five (5) years of administrative work experience in a patient accounting or business office of an acute care or long-term care hospital or healthcare clinic of which two (2) years must be in medical billing or accounts receivable management.

AND

Supervisory – Two (2) years of supervision.

Additional Requirements

May be required to work outside the traditional work schedule.

May be called out to work off-shift in emergency situations.

According to the needs of the organization, some incumbents in this job class may be required to obtain specific technical certifications and programming language skills.
