Job description, work day and responsibilities
Winmore Academy is seeking a skilled and motivated Lab Assistant to support our science department. The ideal candidate will assist in the preparation, organization, and management of laboratory experiments and materials, ensuring a safe and efficient learning environment for students. The Lab Assistant will work closely with science teachers and students to facilitate hands-on learning experiences and maintain laboratory equipment and supplies.
Key Responsibilities:
• Lab Preparation and Management:
• Assist in the setup and preparation of laboratory experiments and demonstrations.
• Ensure that all necessary materials, equipment, and supplies are available and in good condition.
• Clean and maintain laboratory equipment and workspaces, adhering to safety and hygiene standards.
• Student Support:
• Provide assistance to students during laboratory activities, including guidance on proper use of equipment and adherence to safety protocols.
• Support science teachers in managing lab sessions and addressing any technical or procedural issues that arise.
• Safety and Compliance:
• Monitor and enforce safety procedures and protocols in the laboratory to ensure a safe working environment for students and staff.
• Maintain and manage chemical inventory, including proper storage, labeling, and disposal of hazardous materials.
• Ensure compliance with relevant safety regulations and institutional policies.
• Administrative Duties:
• Maintain accurate records of lab inventory, equipment maintenance, and safety inspections.
• Assist in ordering and restocking laboratory supplies and materials as needed.
• Support the development and implementation of laboratory procedures and protocols.
• Professional Development and Collaboration:
• Participate in relevant professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in laboratory management and science education.
• Collaborate with science teachers and other staff members to improve lab procedures and enhance the educational experience.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or related science) or equivalent experience.
• Previous experience working in a laboratory setting is preferred.
• Knowledge of laboratory safety procedures and equipment maintenance.
• Strong organizational and multitasking skills with attention to detail.
• Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with students and staff.
• Proficiency in using standard laboratory equipment and tools.
