Job description, work day and responsibilities
ASRC Federal Communications is seeking a Lead Aerospace Ground Equipment Mechanic for our ISS2 contract supporting our Air Force customer. This position is located on Shemya Island in Alaska.
This is a rotational position in which the selected employee will work a schedule with 3 months on-site at Earackson Air Station (EAS), located in Sheyma, AK and 1 month off unpaid. While working on-site, housing is provided in the form of a dormitory facility. All meals are furnished through the cafeteria. Transportation to Earackson Air Station (EAS), from Anchorage, AK is provided by government sponsored aircraft.
If you live outside of Anchorage, you are responsible for your own transportation to get to Anchorage, AK.
General Summary In the absence of the Airfield Manager, the Lead Aerospace Ground Equipment (AGE) Mechanic coordinates, directs, and oversees airfield/terminal operations and transient aircraft services. The Lead AGE Mechanic also repairs, services, and maintains Aerospace Ground Equipment, and is responsible for the equipment and tools necessary to perform the work. This position analyzes malfunctions, repairs, rebuilds, and maintains power equipment (such as jet engine starters, power supply units, air cycle conditioners, and power generation systems) in the field or in the shop environment.
Essential Duties and Functions
• Works from instructions (work orders, pre-repair inspection reports, standard operating procedures, technical orders, or oral instructions) that indicate possible problems, and the kinds and extent of needed repairs.
• Troubleshoots and repairs diesel, gasoline, and/or multi-fuel engines; gearing/governing components for controlling, changing, or transferring speed/power; hydraulic/pneumatic systems and controls; conditioning systems (cooling, heating, dehumidifying); turbine engines; combustion-powered generators/compressors; or other complex components. This includes disassembling, reassembling, overhauling, and making adjustments according to specifications.
• Troubleshoots electrical and transistorized sensing/controlling devices and panels for engines and generators (e.g., overvoltage, undervoltage, over/under frequency, over temperature, fire detection, low oil pressure).
• Examines, checks, and tests systems/equipment to determine the type and extent of repairs needed.
• Uses complex troubleshooting, testing, and repairing equipment for mechanical/electrical equipment (dynamometers, load banks, impedance bridges, multi-meters, equipment/system test cells or stands, flow meter panels, oscilloscopes, turbine engine analyzers, balancing machines). Also operates less complex equipment (common mechanics tools, voltmeters, ohmmeters, pressure gauges, leak detectors, drills, hones).
• Reads and interprets technical manuals, illustrations, diagrams, schematics, and similar guides that cover complete assembly, troubleshooting, and layouts of powered support systems.
• Informs the supervisor of extensive changes to previously specified or anticipated repairs and limitations; completes approved work according to existing guidelines or instructions.
• Uses experience and judgment to determine why engines, electrical components, hydraulic/pneumatic systems, etc., fail to operate/meet performance specifications and requirements; selects the best repair technique.
• Interfaces with Air Force, AMC contract, and other government personnel as needed.
• Follows safety procedures and uses proper protective equipment.
• Ensures the maintenance and correct storage of all tools and equipment.
• Supports the project Safety Plan through personal involvement in all aspects of safety, including training, attention, and adherence to applicable safety requirements.
• Serves as BASH Technician as required.
• Provides flight line services as required.
• Ensures proper housekeeping practices are followed.
• Performs related work as assigned.
Lead-specific Duties and Responsibilities
• Keeps supervisor apprised of mission status.
• Directs and coordinates activities.
• Assists craft personnel.
• Ensures proper housekeeping practices.
• Inspects/observes work to ensure compliance with applicable safety regulations and practices.
• Completes mission status reports.
• Ensures work is scheduled and accomplished within established timelines.
• Ensures subordinates' time records reflect accurate hours worked on appropriate job activities.
• Coordinates personnel Time-Off Station (TOS) requests.
Accountable For
• Knowledge of the basic principles behind: AC/DC electrical power generation systems; combustion-powered reciprocating engines; turbine engines; multi-drive gear units; heating/cooling systems; pneumatic/hydraulic systems; pressure regulators; electrical switching, harness wiring, metering systems.
• Proficiency in using common office machinery (copiers, fax machines, computers).
• Working professionally with diverse individuals.
• Meeting deadlines and effectively managing stressful situations.
• Clear and effective oral and written communication.
Work Conditions
• Must be able to talk and hear to understand instructions, provide information, and respond to safety warnings.
• Physical requirements include standing, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, tasting/smelling, and working on scaffolding/ladders.
Requirements :
Mandatory
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Five (5) years' experience with Aerospace Ground Equipment (AGE).
• Proficiency in MS Office Suite and various databases.
• Valid state driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
• Frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds without, and more with, assistance.
• Ability to attain and maintain a secret clearance.
• Ability to pass a pre-employment physical and drug test.
Preferred
• Airfield Manager Certification (FAA or equivalent).
• Knowledge of the Bird Aircraft Strike Hazard (BASH) program.
• Forklift experience (standard and all-terrain).
