We have an exciting opportunity for the position of Data Engineer in our Group IT Team. The Solution Delivery team at ISS is responsible for supporting the planning, designing and development of the new and existing core products to support various lines of business at ISS. The role of the BI CoE is to provide a strong centralized authority to guide and govern business teams in the production of accurate, scalable, corporate Analytics and Business Intelligence (BI).
What you will Do:
• Use various methods to transform raw data into useful data systems. For example, create algorithms, strive for efficiency by aligning data systems with business goals.
• Combine raw data/information from different sources to create consistent and machine-readable formats.
• Provide a seamless flow of information throughout the company.
• Implement methods to improve data reliability and quality.
• Develop and test architectures that enable data extraction and transformation for predictive or prescriptive modeling.
Key Accountabilities
• DHW, Data lake, Datamart creation & maintenance.
• Defining & managing Dimensions & Facts Tables with standardized usage of Star, Snowflake, Galaxy Schemas.
• Replication, Mirroring, ELT/ETL Management.
• End to End Environment Management of AWS environments for Alteryx, Tableau,etc.
• On-time delivery (with pre-agreed quality parameters) of self-service analytics and BI portal under constraints/limitations i.e. Tableau High Availability.
• Analyze and organize raw data, developing and maintaining datasets from it.
• Explore and implement ways to enhance data quality and reliability.
• Build data systems and pipelines.
• Prepare data for prescriptive and predictive modeling.
• Combine raw information from different sources.
• Identify opportunities for data acquisition.
• The post holder will carry out any other duties as are within the scope and purpose of the job as requested by the Line Manager and ensure full utilization of all ISS systems according to Standard Operating Procedures.
Key Deliverables
• Ingest, store, process and analyze data from different sources through a scalable, secure, and reliable infrastructure with a philosophy of economy of scale.
• Designing and implementing databases in accordance to end user information need.
• Defining users and enabling data distribution to the right user, in appropriate format and in a timely manner.
• Minimize database downtime and manage parameters to provide fast query responses.
• Determine, enforce, and document database policies, procedures, and standards.
• Perform tests and evaluations regularly to ensure data security, privacy, and integrity.
• Monitor database performance, implement changes, and apply new patches and versions when required.
• L2 and L3 support and operations.
• Dimensionally modelled data warehouses.
• Contribute to administrative activities of Analytics & BI Platform for:
• Design permission structure of analytics & BI Toolset for initial set up and for ongoing maintenance of it.
• User / Identity Management.
• Overall platform configuration and administration.
Knowledge, Experience & Skills- Essential (Must Have)
• Previous experience as a data engineer or in a similar role.
• Technical expertise in data warehouse design (e.g. dimensional modelling), data models, data mining, and segmentation techniques.
• Programming (XML/Javascript/Python/R etc.) and ETL/ELT frameworks and knowledge of learning machine methods.
• Hands-on experience with SQL or similar database design, SQL queries, SSRS and SSIS or similar DBA tools.
• Excellent knowledge of data backup, recovery, security, and integrity.
• In-depth understanding of database management systems, online analytical processing (OLAP), and online transactional processing (OLTP).
• 8+ Years in an IT environment with at least 5+ years of hands-on experience as a Data Engineer - DBA delivering Analytics and BI projects.
• Experience in DataOps, Production Support.
• Strong understanding of SDLC/engineering processes, roles, Requirements Management, QA, etc. with practical experience of tools supporting it viz. Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket, TeamCity, etc.
• Good understanding of project management methodologies (e.g. Scrum, Kanban, Scaled Agile, SAFe, ITIL, etc)
• Strong communicator (verbal and written); ability to talk to different disciplines of stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Attention to detail and ability to self-review work to ensure work is error-free.
Desirable (Good to have but not Mandatory)
• Any Shipping or Maritime Certification / experience.
• Knowledge of port agency
• Presentation and facilitation skills.
• Certified in any of the Analytical and BI tools.
• Experience with, and assisted in, the implementation of governance, controls, and standards.
• Data engineering certification is a plus.
Education And Professional Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Technology in Computer Science, Maths, Statistics, Data Management, or a related field
