Reporting to the Manager, Aquatics, this position involves instructing all swim and lifesaving programs and performing normal lifeguard duties. This position provides guidance to other staff on shift to ensure that high quality aquatic programs and services are consistently provided to our guests.
Duties Include:
Performs normal lifeguard duties including supervising guests and ensuring the pool area is free from hazards.
Plans, organizes and instructs all swim and lifesaving programs as needed.
Maintains and reviews documentation related to facility incidents, water quality, cleaning schedules, checklists, reports and program records.
Monitors pool mechanical equipment and tests and adjusts water quality in swimming pools to ensure the safety of patrons.
Performs facility opening and closing duties and carries out cleaning and minor preventative maintenance tasks as required.
Provides guidance and determines choice of action if/when required.
Deals with or settles requests and minor complaints from the public.
Performs other duties as required.
All persons employed by the City of Vernon will be required to assist the city in providing emergency services. Duties assigned during an emergency may differ from regular duties.
Required Education and Experience:
Minimum 6 months experience as a Lifeguard / Instructor.
Current Lifesaving Society Swimming Instructor Certification.
Current Lifesaving Society National Lifeguard Certification (Pool Option).
Current holder of one of the following advanced certifications (Pool Operator Level 1, Lifesaving Instructor, First Aid Instructor).
Current CPR Level C certification.
A combination of related education and experience may be considered.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledgeable in normal pool maintenance.
Demonstrates leadership skills with the ability to effectively motivate others.
Demonstrates initiative and effective skills in problem solving, and decision making.
Strong interpersonal skills, exhibiting courtesy and professionalism when dealing with customers and staff.
Able to maintain records, complete incident reports, and perform related clerical duties as required.
Ability to operate pool mechanical equipment, water testing equipment, and first aid equipment.
Ability to obtain a Standard First Aid Certification
Ability to obtain and maintain an acceptable (Vulnerable Sector) Police Information Check.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Current Standard First Aid Certification
