Job description
The Associate Manager over leases will be responsible for all aspects of lease accounting for the Domestic businesses. This role will be responsible for ensuring the accounting integrity of all income statement and balance sheet line items associated with leases as well as ensuring the lease accounting standard is applied accurately. This role works closely with the Real Estate and Properties business team which handles rent payments, landlord communication, real estate management software (Lucernex), and other administrative tasks.
This role is remote eligible, which means you would work virtually from home or another non-Best Buy location.
What you'll do
• Ensure accurate and consistent application of GAAP accounting principles for our Domestic leases portfolios and maintain all real estate lease amortization schedules in Lucernex
• Partnering with Real Estate and Properties business and FP&A teams to review and monitor the Real Estate, IT, and Forklift lease agreements and ensure appropriate lease calculations
• Leading, developing and setting direction for a team of two senior accounting analysts and foster a culture of growth of development for yourself and team.
• Oversight of SOX control process for leases including ensuring appropriate controls and integrity of data transfer from leases system (i.e.
Lucernex) to the general ledger
• Research technical accounting issues related to leases and documenting proposed conclusions to ensure internal/external reporting requirements are met to be able to provide insight to cross functional partners regarding the accounting impacts of lease decisions
• Review monthly financial results and prepare commentary for the balance sheet, cash flows and P&L
• Identify automation and efficiency opportunities and implementing more efficient solutions to enhance our accounting processes.
Basic qualifications
• 4+ years of progressive work experience in an Accounting or Finance capacity
• Intermediate Microsoft Excel skills
Preferred qualifications
• BS/BA degree in Accounting or Finance
• Lease accounting experience
• Experience of applying GAAP to complex, large company situations
• Strong communication skills (written, verbal, presentation and facilitation)
• Demonstrated ability to think critically and strategically, build consensus, anticipate problems and solutions, and work with business partners
• Supervisory or managerial experience preferred (e.g., leading a team or project)
• CPA
