Des Moines Airport Authority Des Moines Airport Authority Des Moines, IA Des Moines, IA Full-time Full-time $51,000 - $61,000 a year $51,000 - $61,000 a year 11 days ago 11 days ago 11 days ago Under the general direction of the Accounting Manager, perform a wide variety of technical accounting work associated with accounts payable, general ledger, financial transaction recording, and other directly related work as required.
The principal function of an employee in this class is to prepare and implement accounts processing procedures.
The work is performed under the direct supervision of the Accounting Manager, but leeway is granted for the exercise of independent judgment and initiative within a framework of clearly identified policies and procedures.
This class is distinguished from the class of Accounting Specialist I and II by the skill level in using the financial software applications and the breadth and depth of accounting assistance the position offers to Airport operating departments and other users of the financial system and/or reports.
The nature of the work performed requires the employee to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other Airport employees, outside vendors, and the public.
The principal duties of the position are performed in a general office environment.
Essential Job Functions:
Process accounts payable invoices and requests for payment Process timekeeping entries for payroll Provide support of office reception desk to cover absences of Administrative Assistant, including answering phones, taking messages, processing of mail, lost and found administration, and other general office duties Maintain vendor master files and associated records according to departmental policy and any state/federal guidelines Communicate effectively with vendors, customers, the public, and Airport staff Research historical accounting data Explain transactions to operating departments and outside parties Train others in accounts payable or timekeeping/payroll process Prepare journal entries Perform various reconciliations Prepare sales tax exemption certificates Electronic scanning/filing of accounting and payroll records Keep Accounting Manager accurately informed concerning work progress, including potential work problems and possible ways to address these problems Remain current on principles, practices, and new developments associated with assigned work areas Perform other duties consistent with the role and function of the classification See the full job description for more details.
