Position Summary
As an Accounting Associate, one is responsible for supporting team members in carrying out the responsibilities of the Finance/Accounting Department. The position will have an emphasis on reporting in addition to audits and providing ad hoc analysis upon request. The right candidate must have an accounting degree and general ledger experience. They will be able to work independently and efficiently to meet deadlines with minimal supervision. One must be curious-minded, detail oriented, demonstrate good communication skills and be committed to success. Crucial to success in this role is understanding that the job will include learning from others to gather clear understanding of the basic functions within VGM.
Reporting Accountability: VP of Finance, VGM Insurance Services
Working Location: Waterloo, Iowa, Hybrid work environment can be explored if meeting performance expectations *(work from home not guaranteed)
Work Hours Classification (check all that apply): Monday – Friday 8-5, occasional off-hours may occur when job duties require
Responsibilities/Duties of the Job:
• Complete monthly financial close and reporting
• Process bank transfers and bank reconciliations, additional cash management duties as needed
• Conduct account reconciliation of division receipts and payables
• Accounts Payable preparation, printing, and processing
• General Ledger transaction entry
• Process cancellations and commissions
• Prepare for semi-annual and annual audits
• Assist with financial reporting and analysis as requested
• Backup to cash application & commission receivables reconciliation
• Perform other duties as assigned
Position Qualifications:
• Bachelors degree in accounting required, if not held 2-year associates degree with professional experience.
• The ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner, as well as gather and analyze information skillfully. Ability to plan, organize, prioritize work activities, and use time efficiently is crucial for this position.
• Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles; competence and ability to review, classify, categorize, prioritize, and/or analyze data and/or information; experience exercising discretion when referencing such analysis to established standards.
• Basic knowledge of federal and state financial regulations.
• Knowledge of financial and accounting software applications as well as Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, etc.)
• Strong organizational and time management skills to prioritize workload, multi-task and meet time sensitive deadlines.
• Ability to foster a professional and team-based working environment.
• Confidential demeanor to be discreet and respect information privy to the position.
• Proven attention to detail, follow-through and problem-solving skills.
Physical Requirements:
• Operation of office equipment and using technology efficiently such as computers, phones, misc. office equipment.
• Stationary for long periods of time.
