WHAT YOU WILL DO:
The Accountant IV - V performs complex to highly complex (journey-level) accounting and financial analysis work. Work involves maintaining and balancing financial statements, reports, schedules and exhibits; processing general journal entries; and other adjustments. Works under general to limited supervision, with moderate to considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

YOU WILL BE TRUSTED TO:
- Assist other in the agency on routine inquiries involving time sheets in PeopleSoft (CAPPS) HR system.
- Share responsibility in maintaining the internal accounting system and time sheet configuration, including chart fields, employee position funding and other system parameters.
- Prepare and process routine to complex journal transactions in the internal PeopleSoft (CAPPS) accounting system and the Uniform Statewide Accounting System (USAS).
- Prepare and process routine to complex cost allocations across multiple federal and state funding sources.
- Share responsibility to assist others in the agency on routine inquiries involving transaction errors, reconciliations, configuration and various other financial aspects.
- Share responsibility to develop and maintain procedures and detailed desk manuals for various functions within the Accounting Services team.
- Use Excel and Access to extract and perform periodic analysis of accounting data. Analyze data for accuracy, identify potential problems, and suggest appropriate solutions.
- Recommend continuous process improvements and automate business processes.

YOU QUALIFY WITH:
-Accountant IV: Two years and six months of full-time experience in accounting, finance, or a related field. Six months of full-time in-service experience classified as an Accountant III with regular status will satisfy the minimum qualifications.
-Accountant V: Three years of full-time experience in accounting, finance, or a related field. Six months of full-time in-service experience classified as an
Accountant IV with regular status will satisfy the minimum qualifications.
-Both Levels: A license to practice as a certified public accountant in Texas will satisfy the education and/or experience requirements.

YOU ARE A GREAT FIT WITH:
- Bachelor’s degree with a major or equivalent hours in accounting or finance, with accounting experience in State Government.
- Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and/or Microsoft Access.
- Experience with CAPPS HR Time and Labor and/or CAPPS Financials.
- Ability to handle a wide range of assignments and manage confidential information.
- Efficient time management skills with the ability to balance multiple tasks at once.
- Strong organization skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
